Ayesha Curry recently celebrated International Women’s Day in a powerful way, speaking with MSNBC's Symone Sanders-Townsend about all things Sweet July and Eat. Learn. Play. at the second annual Know Your Value and Forbes' 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi.

During the twenty minute conversation, Ayesha touched on her support of Black-owned and female-founded companies, her own entrepreneurship, and how she and Stephen are uplifting Oakland kids. The through-line connecting all of her work? Her passion for amplifying stories, creating space, and finding everyone a seat at the table, especially those who have been historically excluded. As she shared with the audience, “I say level the playing field, but really I think it’s building our own field…so if it’s not going to happen we’re going to make it happen.”

“I say level the playing field, but really I think it’s building our own field…so if it’s not going to happen we’re going to make it happen.”

Speaking about her work with Eat. Learn. Play., Ayesha described how she and Stephen wanted to wrap their arms around their adopted community of Oakland and be a village for people who might not otherwise have one, explaining, “the Oakland community is so vibrant and so collaborative and such a community in every sense of the word...they’ve embraced us so much.”

By working with the community to provide quality nutrition, education, and places to play for Oakland kids, Ayesha shared that Eat. Learn. Play. is not reinventing the wheel but just connecting the dots. “We are going to focus on Oakland right now,” she said, “and our hope is that people look at the model and see that it works and see that the numbers are changing and then implement that model in their own communities.”
