Christmas with the Currys
This December, Eat. Learn. Play. brought Christmas with the Currys to life through free, holiday themed book fairs for 47 OUSD elementary schools. More than 17,000 students browsed, explored, and chose 4 brand-new books each, turning the season into a celebration of reading, imagination, and joy. Across the month, 600+ volunteers, including teams from partners and community organizations, joined Stephen and Ayesha Curry in supporting students as they shopped the book fairs and selected books that matched their interests.
Now in its 13th year, Christmas with the Currys is a long-standing Oakland tradition rooted in generosity, community connection, and joy. The event is centered on the simple idea that every child deserves to feel supported and celebrated during the holiday season. All activities and gifts are designed to honor the spirit of the season: kindness, joy and shared community.
This year marked one of the largest Christmas with the Currys celebrations to date, with Rubrik, a security and AI operations company, serving as the lead sponsor. This year’s event also marked the launch of a new partnership between Eat. Learn. Play. and Rubrik, which has invested significantly to strengthen the foundation’s work across hunger relief, literacy resources and support, and access to sports and play. Rubrik’s partnership is helping ensure students have access not only to books, but also to joyful experiences that support their growth and learning.
“At Rubrik, we believe in more than technology; we believe deeply in the power of learning and the responsibility we have to uplift the communities where we live, work, and dream. Kicking off our extended partnership with the Eat. Learn. Play. foundation at Christmas with the Currys is just the start. Our commitment extends beyond December, focusing on expanding the resources that empower children to learn, thrive, and live their best lives.”
