The Stephen Curry Collection: My Sneaker Free Agency, An Auction to Benefit Eat. Learn. Play.
Stephen Curry Teams Up with Sotheby's For Exclusive Sneaker "Free Agency" Auction
(Excerpt from Sotheby’s Press Release)
New York, April 7, 2026 – On November 13th, 2025, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry announced, for the first time in his career, he was no longer tied to a specific athletic wear brand partner. With this unprecedented freedom, Curry embarked on a deliberate and highly curated journey, opting to wear a different pair of sneakers in nearly every game appearance throughout the remainder of the season.
Night after night, each selection ignited its own cycle of coverage within the sports and sneaker ecosystem, dissected and debated in real time, often before the final buzzer had even sounded. His selections ranged far beyond the boundaries of basketball: retro Air Jordans designed for off-court wear, a tennis shoe made for Roger Federer, and repeated and deliberate tributes to the women’s game and the WNBA. He rotated through Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas, Reebok, Li-Ning, ANTA, New Balance, Puma, AND1, DaDa Supreme, On, HOKA, and more, spanning brands across North America, Europe, and Asia, from global giants to the boutique and the unexpected. What ultimately fueled the phenomenon, however, was not just the notion of “sneaker free agency,” but the intentionality behind each choice. When Curry arrived in Utah wearing the Air Jordan 12 ‘Flu Game’—a model synonymous with Michael Jordan’s iconic Finals performance against the Jazz—it read as a calculated provocation. His appearance in the Reebok Shaqnosis in Orlando served as a direct homage to Shaquille O’Neal, while donning the Nike Sabrina 3 with Sabrina Ionescu in attendance signaled a public show of support for one of the defining stars of today’s women’s game. Far beyond aesthetics, each pair became a form of storytelling—reflecting Stephen Curry’s personal history, his reverence for the game, and his role in the ongoing evolution of sneaker culture.
Now, more than four months after declaring his free agency, the future Hall of Famer is teaming up with Sotheby’s to exclusively auction more than 70 pairs of sneakers from this singular chapter of his career. Each pair, personally worn by Curry, will be sold individually, with proceeds benefiting the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. The online auction will be open for bidding from 13–28 April.
“I’ve always believed that every pair of sneakers tells a story. This collection really captures a unique chapter for me during my sneaker free agency this season. From the tunnel walks to the on-court warm-ups to the games across the country, I was excited to spend this time shining a light on players over the years who have left their mark on the sneaker game. What makes this even more special is the impact it can have off the court. Every dollar raised will support Eat. Learn. Play.—the foundation that I co-founded with Ayesha—where we focus on the everyday needs that shape a child’s future with access to food, literacy, and safe places to play and grow. I’m excited to share this unique catalog in a way that lets fans be part of the journey. Partnering with Sotheby’s to bring this auction to life gives these sneakers a platform beyond the game, where they can live on and mean something to someone else.”
