Workday Begins 10-Year Stretch as the Memorial Tournament’s Presenting Sponsor

As the PGA Tour makes its annual return to the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, in June, there’s plenty of excitement around changes to the structure of the iconic event.

The tournament, which has remained one of the premier events on the PGA Tour schedule since Jack Nicklaus founded it in 1976, will welcome a new presenting sponsor in 2022. Workday, a leading provider of enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources, is launching into the first year of a new 10-year Memorial partnership as part of their continued support of the PGA Tour.

Workday isn’t just sponsoring the event—the company is uniting with Jack and Barbara Nicklaus to build on their founding vision of using the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday to showcase golf’s best players while also supporting charitable causes, particularly those impacting children and their families, in the Columbus, Ohio area, and across the country.

“We are honored to be part of the Memorial Tournament,” said Aneel Bhusri, Co-Founder, Co-CEO and Chairman of Workday. “At Workday, we’ve greatly admired this event not only for its deep history in showcasing outstanding global talent in the sport, but also for its commitment to giving back to the community.”

As part of that charitable mission, Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Oakland, California-based Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation will join Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus as one of the two primary beneficiaries of the tournament through an alliance with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Curry, an eight-time All-Star with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, is an avid golfer who has used his celebrity status to support underprivileged youth and create playing opportunities.

Workday’s connection with Muirfield Village Golf Club started during the pandemic. Last year, the Pleasanton, California-based company sponsored a one time full-field event – the Workday Charity Open – the week before the Memorial to replace the canceled John Deere Classic. That tournament raised more than $1.5 million in charitable donations for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.

On the course, Workday also has ambassador partnerships with several top professional golfers, including 2013 Memorial Tournament winner Matt Kuchar and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who has four top-10 finishes in seven appearances in the event.

“The Nicklaus family has built a truly special event,” said Bhusri. “We look forward to partnering closely with the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation to further build on the Memorial Tournament’s outstanding legacy and make a positive impact in the communities where we live, work, and in this case, play.”
